It was commissioned by the prestigious Howard de Walden Estate (who own much of Marylebone real estate). They asked for a striking but abstract piece. We worked together on colour scheme and concepts… this piece was the result. This work draws inspiration from the sea at Lyme Regis where I go swimming early in the morning throughout the year. On days when it is too rough, I gaze out towards Portland Bill and appreciate the white foam contrasting with the dark hues of the sea. Each crash is like a firework, bright and then gone. Konoha is Japanese for ‘leaves of trees’. This series of pieces was inspired by a horse ride in an ancient Devon wood when I glanced up briefly and had a momentary ‘flash’ of colour and shape and light. There were streaks of pure white light but also a blurring of the hues of leaves from different trees.
