Kaikei #2
Kaikei #2Kaikei is the Japanese for ‘seascape’. This work draws inspiration from the sea at Lyme Regis where I go swimming early in the morning throughout the year. On days when it is too rough, I gaze out towards Portland Bill and appreciate the white foam contrasting with the dark hues of the sea. Each crash is like a firework, bright and then gone. In the distance, the land is a wash of grey, smeared by the moisture in the air.
Konoha #1
Konoha #1Layered pigmented resin using stencils. Konoha is Japanese for ‘leaves of trees’. This series of pieces was inspired by a horse ride in an ancient Devon wood when I glanced up briefly and had a momentary ‘flash’ of colour and shape and light. There were streaks of pure white light but also a blurring of the hues of leaves from different trees. In this work, I have tried to capture the excitement of those moments.
Konoha #3
Konoha #3In this third in the series of my Konoha pieces, I added vibrant autumnal pinks and purples reflecting the shots of vivid light that streak through the leaves of acers and other trees that fade to the red spectrum in October and November. The work is intended to capture the ‘flashes’ that catch the eye for a millisecond when looking up through trees when the sun plays brightly in Devon forests.
Konoha #4
Konoha #4The fourth piece in this series is in portrait format. It reflects an early morning ‘light in the tree canopy’ moment with the yellows of low sunlight but aso blues and dark greens as the lower leaves retain their low-lit status.
Interleaf #3
Interleaf #3I chose a pure white to allow the leaf patterns to spring or fade through. Another in my series capturing the boundaries of light perception in nature.
Interleaf #2
Interleaf #2Another in my series in the interplay of light, nature and the eye. Here I wanted to capture the translucency of background when we focus on the foreground. How our depth of field shrinks to the object of our attention… here a branch in nature with the light leaks of the sun.
Sea Energy #3
Sea Energy #3A rare picture of me with one of my largest pieces to show the scale. Here I capture the energy of the sea and spray using a very dark palette reflecting my love of the waves at night-time.

Headlandia
HeadlandiaHere I opted for deep blur and greens for the organic rush of the spring neep tides on the Devon coast. A hint of Dorset headland and brooding skies.
